Over the past few years, Wilmington has been experiencing considerable growth in businesses that offer a unique selection of beer and wine. And why not? These places offer a much needed retreat from a hard week of work. They can also be an ideal setting to network and meet some new, friendly faces. One of my favorite spots for these experiences is this week’s hot spot in Wilmington – The Brewer’s Kettle.
You will find The Brewer’s Kettle in the middle of town right next to Hugh MacRae Park on Oleander Dr. It is a bright red building that was originally a service station built in the 1950’s. With a little vision and ingenuity, it has now become one of the premier venues in Wilmington to enjoy craft beer, fine wine, and a variety of cigars.
When you walk inside you are greeted by a colorful assortment of beverages to choose from and a welcoming, laid back atmosphere. A recent refurb includes built-in shelving to display the huge variety of canned beer and a new area to lounge with a sofa and TV – this area is in addition to the current lounge space in the front of the shop that includes a few high top tables, comfortable sofa, and a pillow-top window seat spanning the width of the front lounge area. Beer coolers line a portion of the back wall with a nice array of single canned beers to choose from, while the built-ins and shelves around the shop house bottles of wine and cases of beer for your “grab-n-go” option. At the bar, you will see their selection of draft beers on a large monitor that is updated on a weekly basis.
If you prefer to enjoy your drinks outside, you have the option to post up out back on their outdoor covered patio complete with picnic tables, corn hole, tabletop Jenga, and a few small fire pits. On select weekends the back patio is the spot to catch live music. For those of you wanting a more intimate spot, check out the tables & chairs located in front of the building.
If all of this wasn’t enough, Brewer’s Kettle is also dog friendly, both indoors and on the patio. Be on the lookout for an adorable english bulldog named Butterbean who is basically the “spokesdog” for business.
Lets review… Delicious drinks, live music, dog friendly, and great location. If you are a fan of craft beer, fine wine, or just socializing with friends, The Brewer’s Kettle is absolutely worth checking out if you haven’t already. And to make the deal even sweeter – be on the lookout for the addition of their own food truck sometime in the near future!
